PRINT BLOCK LIKE A PRO

Print blocking can be exhilarating or daunting, depending of course on personal style! However, in celebration of our epic PRINT FRENZY sale currently on, and the turn of seasons at our door, we encourage you to spruce up your wardrobe (or style) and have a go at print blocking like a pro.
Unsure where to start? We break it down for you with staff sale picks available at 40% to 50% off until the end of the week!
Rule #1
Pair loud with quiet! Like the age old saying of 'opposites attract', treat a more subtle print composed of different shades of one colour or with less variation, as a neutral. Then pair it with the flamboyant sister that has a lot more to say. This will help keep a balance and blend the two prints together into one cohesive look.
Rule #2
Colour, darling! Using colour theory as a reference, pinpoint the accent \colour that stands out the most (it may be two), and find a print that compliments or works in stark contrast with it. This is where words such as monotone, primary and complimentary colours come in handy.

Our Fitzroy team chose;

August cheetah wool jersey paired with Meisai camo cotton drill
Make it up into the Drapers Rotello jumper and the Style Arc Carlisle Jean.

Our Auckland team chose;

Leonardo style (Romeo & Juliet) Leonardo tropical printed linen paired with Geneva floral printed viscose
Make it up into the Drapers Bresso short sleeve and the Liam Patterns Carol bias slip.

Our Newtown team chose;

Anni floral printed cotton paired with Percy tartan viscose
Make it up into the Drapers Solara blouse pattern and the Shepherd A-line skirt.

Rule #3
Keep it in the family! If you can, work with the same style of print and see that there's less clashing between the two. Play with different prints of the same style such as florals, checks, stripes etc.
Rule #4
What's the scale? Treat a smaller scale print as a neutral, that can be easily placed next to a larger scale print, and lead the conversation.
  Our Newtown team chose;
Sofi fruit printed cotton paired with Maggie striped crepe de chine
Make it up into the Liam Patterns Pack'o sleeves and the Tate Romper.
  Our Fitzroy team chose;
Lily tropical printed linen paired with Ari floral printed cotton
Make it up into the Style Arc Mckenzie Blazer and the Tommie Jeans skirt.
  Our Auckland team chose;
Georgia orchid printed cotton paired with Maisie floral printed cotton knit
Make it up into the Drapers Bresso short sleeve and the Swimstyle Therese Dress.
Rule #5
Most importantly, have fun!
